The Chicken-Egg conundrum of collaborative consumption
There always seems to be a chicken-egg conundrum with a marketplace (i.e. collaborative consumption) model. Without clear demand, suppliers don’t want to waste their time, and without supply, buyers won’t bother to join the marketplace.
RelayRides has come up with a creative solution. Make it easy for potential customers to communicate their demand to their Facebook networks via a ‘Renting Social’ tool.
It’ll be interesting to see how this works out. Has anyone seen other examples of collaborative consumption companies implementing similar tactics?
